The Tecno Spark 40 Pro (KM6) stands out from other budget phones primarily due to its vibrant display, impressive camera, and a feature-rich software package that includes numerous AI capabilities. However, the phone shares other core specifications such as CPU, RAM, and internal storage with its competitors.
By the way, the Spark 40 Pro sits in the middle of the recently unveiled Tecno Spark 40 series. The top spot is occupied by the more equipped Spark 40 Pro+ (KM7), and at the bottom is the base model, the regular Tecno Spark 40 (KM5). However, the regular Spark 40 is similar in size and shape to the Tecno Pop 10 (KM4). It also shares many features with this more affordable phone than it does with its two siblings.

On the other hand, both the Spark 40 Pro and Spark 40 Pro+ are the same size and share many features. In short, the main selling points of the Spark 40 Pro+ over the Spark 40 Pro are its curved screen, new CPU, and support for wireless charging. However, the 40 Pro+ lacks the 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card slot found on the 40 Pro.

Price And Design Colours:
The Tecno Spark 40 Pro is available in various colour options of Ink Black, Moon Titanium, Lake Blue, and Bamboo Green. Currently, the phone's starting price is about 225,799 Naira.

Design And Box Contents:
Like its two siblings, the Spark 40 Pro comes with a full set of accessories in the box. Tecno includes a 45W charger (adapter), a USB-C cable, a TPU case, and an earphone. The unboxing experience for the 40 Pro+ is even more exciting, as it comes with a separate screen protector and a wireless charging ring built into its TPU case. However, an earphone is missing from the Pro+ box due to its lack of a 3.5mm audio jack.

When it comes to design, the Spark 40 Pro and Spark 40 Pro+ are identical in size, both featuring a 6.78-inch display. This makes them larger than the base model Spark 40, which has a 6.67-inch screen.
However, the Spark 40 Pro+ further distinguishes itself with a curved screen (also known as an edge-to-edge display). Which means, the Spark 40 Pro has a flat display, and its sides and back cover are also flat.
The Spark 40 Pro's design and screen size are not particularly unique, fitting in with many recent budget phones. Competitors like the Infinix Note 50 and Tecno Camon 40, for example, have a similar look and the same display dimensions. In this segment, the camera module's design is often the main differentiator. So, the Spark 40 Pro also distinguishes itself with a unique and well-organized triple circular module. However, this design appears to be heavily inspired by Samsung's Galaxy A-Series, to the point where the Tecno phone could easily be mistaken for a Samsung Galaxy A16 from the rear.

Meanwhile, despite lacking the curved screen of the Pro+ model, the Spark Pro retains its good build quality. It also has Corning Glass 7i protection (on the front) and an IP64 certification. This means the Tecno Spark 40 Pro is certified as dust-tight and water-splash resistant. It can also survive drops from up to 1.5 meters. The Spark 40 Pro also includes some essential features found on the Pro+, such as an IR blaster, which allows you to use the phone as a remote control for electronic appliances.

While the port and button layout of the Spark 40 Pro is different from the 40 Pro+, it follows a common design for budget phones. The bottom edge houses a 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C port, microphone, and one of its Dolby Atmos stereo speakers. The second speaker is the sole component on the top. As usual, the volume and power buttons are on the right side, while the 3-in-1 SIM tray (accommodating two 4G nano-SIMs and one microSD card) is on the left.

DISPLAY: 1080p or 1.5k:
While the regular Spark 40 features an IPS-LCD screen, the Spark 40 Pro and Pro+ both come with better AMOLED displays. According to the spec sheet, both displays have a 144Hz high refresh rate and a "1.5K (1224 x 2720) resolution." However, while the 144Hz (in addition to 120Hz, 90Hz, & 60Hz) refresh rate is accurate, the 1.5K resolution is a marketing overstatement. Technically, these two displays have a native 1080p resolution of 2400-by-1080 pixels, which is what you'll find on many other phones in this price range. For instance, the 6.78-inch AMOLED displays on the previously mentioned Tecno Camon 40 and Infinix Note 50 also feature a similar 1080p resolution (with slightly different vertical pixels).
If you are considering a phone with a genuine 1.5K resolution and the benefits it offers, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G would be a solid choice.
.
That said. The Spark 40 Pro screen looks great, just like the screens on the Camon 40 and Note 50. It is sharp, clear, and has vibrant colours. The screen is also very bright—brighter, in fact, than those two phones. Tecno says the Auto brightness can reach over 4,000 nits, but it really only gets to about 1,600 nits. Still, that's bright enough to see what's on the screen even when you're outside in the sun.
With the manual brightness slider, the peak brightness is about 700 nits, which is more than sufficient for most normal lighting conditions. The Spark 40 Pro includes a feature called Outdoor Booster in its display settings. This automatically increases screen brightness (and some other features) when you're in outdoor or noisy environments. In this segment, the Redmi Note 14 is another phone that offers a similarly bright display.

By the way, Like many other devices in this segment, the Spark 40 Pro's AMOLED display does not have HDR support. However, the display fully supports Widevine L1 DRM certification. Meaning, you can watch videos in "1080p or High Definitions" (and in improved colour reproduction) on streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Impressive Camera:
The Spark 40 Pro looks like it has three cameras on the back, but it really only has two: a 50MP main camera and a small QVGA camera that serves as an auxiliary sensor. The third circle is actually for the IR blaster. For selfies, there's a 13MP lens on the front. This camera configuration is identical to the Spark 40 Pro+. So the pictures from both phones look almost the same. However, because the Pro+ has a slightly newer processor, its photos look a little better. But unless you're really paying attention to the small details, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between a picture taken with the Spark 40 Pro and one from the 40 Pro+.

The Spark 40 Pro takes consistently good pictures for a phone in its price range. The photos are clear and vibrant, with a decent amount of detail. Colours are close to life and moderately saturated. The camera also handles HDR and Portrait shots quite well, producing impressive results for this category.
Turning to the front. Though as expected, the Spark 40 Pro's front camera can't match the detail of its rear camera, it still delivers good results. Selfies from the front camera retain the clarity and vibrancy found in photos taken with the main lens. Colours and skin tones also look good. Portrait selfies and dynamic range also turned out okay.
Meanwhile, with both its front and rear cameras, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro can shoot videos up to 2K resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). But there is no form of video stabilization..

Software And AI Features:
Out of the box, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro boots Android 15 OS with the latest HiOS 15.1.1 custom UI on top. There is no official statement on whether this phone will be getting major OS updates in the future.
That said, as i mentioned earlier, the third selling point (after the display and camera) of the Spark 40 Pro is its numerous AI features. In addition to popular ones like Google's Circle to Search and Gemini, there are others like the AI Wallpaper Generator, AI Note, AI Subtitles, AI Studio (with AI Eraser and Image Extender), AI Real-time Call Translator, and many more

There's another feature that Tecno calls FreeLink, which allows you to make free calls via Bluetooth. As expected, the range is short, less than 50 metres to be precise. Besides, you can only make calls to another Tecno phone that has FreeLink, or an Infinix phone with UltraLink (which is the same thing). Unfortunately, the app is not yet available to download on the Google Play Store.
Overall, the Spark 40 Pro includes roughly 13 AI features, a significant jump from the 5 features on the regular Spark 40. In its price category, few competitors can match the sheer number of AI functionalities offered by the Spark 40 Pro.

RAM, Storage, And Familiar Processor:
The Tecno Spark 40 Pro comes with a single 8GB RAM option and offers a choice between 128GB and 256GB of internal storage. As i said, unlike the Spark 40 Pro+, the Spark 40 Pro features a microSD card slot, which enables you to expand the phone's internal storage capacity up to two terabytes (2TB).
The Tecno Spark 40 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate, which is beefier than the Helio G81 found inside the regular Spark 40. It is also nearly identical to the newly unveiled Helio G200 that powers the Spark 40 Pro+.

In detail, both the Helio G200 and Helio G100 Ultimate are 6nm octa-core processors with the same clock speeds of up to 2.2 GHz. Both also implement the Mali-G57 MC2 as their GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). The G200, however, offers a slightly faster GPU clock speed of 1100MHz, compared to the 1000MHz of the G100 Ultimate. As a result of their nearly identical processing power, the performance of the Spark 40 Pro and 40 Pro+ are similar.

The Spark 40 Pro delivers a responsive performance for everyday use, with quick app launches and seamless multitasking. While it handles moderately demanding tasks with ease, it struggles with more intensive workloads, particularly graphics-heavy games. While it can run popular titles, performance requires sacrificing graphic quality and frame rates to prevent lag. Ultimately, the Spark 40 Pro is not designed as a gaming phone.

Battery Capacity, Wired And Wireless Fast Charging:
The Tecno Spark 40 Pro is powered by a 5,200mAh battery and supports up to 45W fast charging. The battery size and fast charging are also what you get on the Spark 40 Pro+. Though most phones at this price point also offer a similar setup, unlike many of them, however, the Spark 40 Pro supports 10W Reverse Wired charging. For those seeking wireless charging, it is exclusive to the Pro+ model.
Meanwhile, with its out-of-the-box 45W charger, it will take you just a little over an hour to fully charge the Tecno Spark 40 Pro battery from zero percent.
