The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ (KM7) appears to be targeted at budget-conscious consumers seeking a curved display, as it's one of the few devices in its price range to feature an edge-to-edge screen. Beyond this, there are no significant distinctions between the Spark 40 Pro+ and its competitors. Though the phone boasts a new processor, but its overall performance is largely identical to the chipsets found in other budget phones.
By the way, the Spark 40 Pro+ occupies the top spot in the recently unveiled Tecno Spark 40 Series. While the Spark 40 Pro (KM6) sits in the middle, the regular Tecno Spark 40 (KM5) is positioned at the bottom. However, the regular Spark 40 is similar in size and shape to the Tecno Pop 10 (KM4). It also shares many features with this more affordable phone than it does with its two siblings.
On the other hand, both the Spark 40 Pro and Spark 40 Pro+ are the same size and share many features. In short, the main selling points of the Spark 40 Pro+ over the Spark 40 Pro are its curved screen, new CPU, and support for wireless charging. However, the 40 Pro+ lacks the 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card slot found on the 40 Pro.
Price And Design Colours:
The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ is available in various colour options of Moon Titanium, Nebula Black, Aurora White, and Tundra Green. Currently, the phone's starting price is about 104,099 Naira.
By the way. The Infinix Hot 50 Pro+ is another phone at this price point that offers a curved display and packs similar features as the Spark 40 Pro+.
Design And Box Contents:
Inside the box for the Spark 40 Pro+, you will find a 45W charger, a USB-C cable, a screen protector, and a TPU case with a built-in wireless charging ring. Since the phone doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack, it does not come with earphones
The Spark 40 Pro+ features a 6.78-inch edge-to-edge AMOLED display, which is exactly what you get on devices such as the Tecno Camon 40 Pro and the more affordable Infinix Hot 50 Pro+. However, the one on the Spark 40 Pro+ appears to have more rounded corners, which gives the display a distinct look.
The Spark 40 Pro+ presents a striking contrast between its design elements; while the front appears premium and classy, the back is arguably less appealing. This is primarily due to the unattractive rear camera module, which has a rectangular shape and looks less refined than the one on the Spark 40 Pro.
Except for the camera bump, everything about this phone's design feels high-end. The Spark 40 Pro+ is very light (160g) and thin (6.5mm) but still feels strong and solid to hold. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front and is rated IP64, which means it's safe from dust and water splashes. It can even survive a drop from about 1.5 metres high.
The arrangement of buttons and ports on the Spark 40 Pro+ is somewhat unconventional. Apart from lacking a 3.5mm audio jack, the phone's SIM slot is also located on the bottom, as opposed to the usual left side. In addition to the SIM slot, the bottom also houses a microphone, a USB-C port, and one of the phone's Dolby Atmos-powered stereo speakers. The second speaker is located on the top of the phone alongside a noise-cancelling microphone. As usual, the power and volume keys are located on the right. However, as mentioned earlier, there is nothing on the left side of the Spark 40 Pro+.
DISPLAY: 1080p or 1.5k:
Besides sharing the same 6.78-inch screen size, the curved AMOLED display of the Spark 40 Pro+ also has several key attributes in common with the displays on the previously mentioned Camon 40 Pro and Infinix Hot 50 Pro+. Though, according to the spec sheet, the display of the Spark 40 Pro+ (and that of the regular 40 Pro) is stated to have a 144Hz high refresh rate and a "1.5K (1224 x 2720) resolution." However, while the 144Hz (in addition to 120Hz, 90Hz, & 60Hz) refresh rate is accurate, the 1.5K resolution is a marketing overstatement. Technically, the display of the Spark 40 Pro+ has a native 1080p resolution of 2400-by-1080 pixels. Which is what you'll find on many other phones in this price range. For instance, the 6.78-inch curved displays on the two previously mentioned phones also feature a similar 1080p resolution (with slightly different vertical pixels).
If you are considering a phone with a genuine 1.5K resolution and the benefits it offers, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G would be a solid choice.
That said. The Spark 40 Pro+ screen looks great, just like those on the Camon 40 Pro and Infinix Hot 50 Pro+. It is sharp, clear, and has vibrant colours. The screen is also very bright—brighter, in fact, than those two phones. Tecno says the Auto brightness can reach over 4,000 nits, but it really only gets to about 1,600 nits. Still, that's bright enough to see what's on the screen even when you're outside in the sun.
With the manual brightness slider, the peak brightness is about 700 nits, which is more than sufficient for most normal lighting conditions. The Spark 40 Pro+ includes a feature called Outdoor Booster in its display settings. This automatically increases screen brightness (and some other features) when you're in outdoor or noisy environments. In this segment, the Redmi Note 14 is another phone that offers a similarly bright display.
It should be noted that despite its curve edge, the display of the Spark 40 Pro+ has the same size and attributes as the flat display of the Spark 40 Pro.
By the way, Like many other devices in this segment, the Spark 40 Pro+'s AMOLED display does not have HDR support. However, the display fully supports Widevine L1 DRM certification. Meaning, you can watch videos in "1080p or High Definitions" (and in improved colour reproduction) on streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Impressive Camera:
The Spark 40 Pro+ looks like it has three cameras on the back, but it really only has two: a 50MP main camera and a small QVGA camera that serves as an auxiliary sensor. The third circle is actually for the IR blaster (which allows you to use the phone as a remote control for electronic appliances). For selfies, there's a 13MP lens on the front. This camera configuration is identical to the Spark 40 Pro. So the pictures from both phones look almost the same. However, because the Spark 40 Pro+ has a slightly newer processor, its photos look a little better. But unless you're really paying attention to the small details, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between a picture taken with the Spark 40 Pro+ and one from the 40 Pro.
The Spark 40 Pro+ takes consistently good pictures. The photos are clear and vibrant, with a decent amount of detail. Colours are close to life and moderately saturated. The camera also handles HDR and Portrait shots quite well, producing impressive results for this category.
Turning to the front. Though as expected, the Spark 40 Pro+'s front camera can't match the detail of its rear camera, it still delivers good results. Selfies from the front camera retain the clarity and vibrancy found in photos taken with the main lens. Colours and skin tones also look good. Portrait selfies and dynamic range also turned out okay.
Meanwhile, with both its front and rear cameras, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ can shoot videos up to 2K resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). While its siblings (the regular Spark 40 and Spark 40 Pro) offer no form of video stabilization, the Spark 40 Pro+ comes with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). However, when it (Stabilization) is enabled, the phone can only shoot videos in 1080p.
Software And AI Features:
Out of the box, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ boots Android 15 OS with the latest HiOS 15.1.1 custom UI on top. There is no official statement on whether this phone will be getting major OS updates in the future.
That said. In addition to its curved display and new CPU, another notable feature of the Spark 40 Pro+ that's worth mentioning is its numerous AI features. In addition to popular ones like Google's Circle to Search and Gemini, there are others like the AI Wallpaper Generator, AI Note, AI Subtitles, AI Studio (with AI Eraser and Image Extender), AI Real-time Call Translator, and many more.
There's another feature that Tecno calls FreeLink, which allows you to make free calls via Bluetooth. As expected, the range is short, less than 50 metres to be precise. Besides, you can only make calls to another Tecno phone that has FreeLink, or an Infinix phone with UltraLink (which is the same thing). Unfortunately, the app is not yet available to download on the Google Play Store.
Overall, the Spark 40 Pro+ includes roughly 13 AI features. And you get the same set of AI features on the Spark 40 Pro. In its price category, few competitors can match the sheer number of AI functionalities offered by the Spark 40 Pro+.
New Processor, But Same Familiar Processing Power:
Concerning its hardware. The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ is available in a single configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. As previously mentioned, unlike the Spark 40 Pro, the Spark 40 Pro+ does not have a microSD card slot, which means you cannot expand the phone's internal storage..
The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ is powered by the new MediaTek Helio G200 processor. Despite being a new release, this chipset is functionally identical to the Helio G100 Ultimate found in the standard Spark 40 Pro and many of its competitors.
In detail, both the Helio G200 and Helio G100 Ultimate are 6nm octa-core processors with the same clock speeds of up to 2.2 GHz. Both also implement the Mali-G57 MC2 as their GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). The G200, however, offers a slightly faster GPU clock speed of 1100MHz, compared to the 1000MHz of the G100 Ultimate. As a result of their nearly identical processing power, the performance of the Spark 40 Pro+ and 40 Pro are similar.
The Spark 40 Pro+ delivers a responsive performance for everyday use, with quick app launches and seamless multitasking. While it handles moderately demanding tasks with ease, it struggles with more intensive workloads, particularly graphics-heavy games. While it can run popular titles, performance requires sacrificing graphic quality and frame rates to prevent lag. Ultimately, the Spark 40 Pro+ is not designed as a gaming phone.
Battery Capacity, Wired And Wireless Fast Charging:
The Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ is powered by a 5,200mAh battery and supports up to 45W fast charging. The battery size and fast charging are also what you get on the Spark 40 Pro. Though most phones at this price point also offer a similar setup, unlike many of them, however, the Spark 40 Pro+ supports several charging standards: 30W wireless charging, 5W reverse wireless charging, and 10W reverse wired charging.
Using the included 45W charger, the phone's battery can go from empty to full in just a little over an hour.
