I almost wrote off the Tecno Pop 10 (KM4), thinking it was just another budget phone offering similar value for money. Its familiar design and features, largely carried over from the Tecno Pop 9, made it easy to overlook. However, after comparing it with other phones at this price point, i was genuinely surprised by the Pop 10's comprehensive feature set. It's the only one that offers stereo speakers, a solid IP rating, a capable CPU, the latest Android OS, and essential features like an IR blaster—all in one package. Surprisingly, despite having a basic camera system like the rest, the phone manages to deliver decent photos. Furthermore, the Tecno Pop 10 also boasts a higher refresh rate display, like its competitors.
Price And Design Colours:
The Tecno Pop 10 is available in various colour options of Gravity Black, Magic Skin, Mystery White, and Alpenglow Gold. Currently, the phone's starting price is about 104,099 Naira.
Design And First Look:
To begin, the unboxing experience of the Tecno Pop 10 was not particularly exciting. The box contents are quite basic: the phone itself, a USB-A to Type-C cable, a 10W charger (despite the phone supporting 15W quick charging), and a TPU case. No earphones are included, though. While most other phones in this segment also omit earphones, the Itel City 100 is an exception. Moreover, in contrast to the TPU case accompanying the Pop 10 and those of other competing devices, the Itel phone's TPU case integrates a magnetic ring, allowing you to attach small metallic objects to the back of the phone.
Meanwhile, as mentioned earlier, the Tecno Pop 10 carries forward the recognizable design of the Pop 9. It boasts the same 6.67-inch hole-punch display (and the familiar thick bezels and chin), paired with flat sides and a flat rear panel. Despite these similarities, the new phone immediately grabs attention with its unique, iPhone 16-inspired camera module.
Within the camera module, you'll find the new Tecno Pop's single-lens rear camera and an IR blaster(which allows you to use the phone as a remote control for electronic appliances). The LED flash is conveniently positioned right next to the camera bump. Furthermore, a significant upgrade in build quality is also evident in the Pop 10 compared to its predecessor. Where the earlier model was IP52 rated, the latest device proudly carries an IP64 certification. This signifies it is fully protected against dust ingress and water splashes.
As previously noted, aside from the redesigned camera module and enhanced build quality, the Tecno Pop 10's physical attributes largely mirror those of its predecessor and most competitors in this price bracket. On the bottom of the device, you'll find a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB Type-C port, a microphone, and one of its stereo speakers. The second speaker is conveniently located on the top. As usual, the volume keys and power button (which also doubles as a fingerprint reader) are found on the right side of the phone, while its 3-in-1 dual 4G nano-SIM tray is positioned on the left. It's worth noting that the Infinix Smart 10 shares similar dimensions and almost identical attributes with the Pop 10, but lacks the IR blaster,
Familiar Display:
Not only does the Tecno Pop 10's screen share the same 6.67-inch size as the Pop 9, but it also features the same 20:9 aspect ratio and 720p resolution (1600 by 720 pixels). This consistency means sharpness and clarity are unchanged. Although a few other displays, such as the one on the Xiaomi Redmi A5, might have slightly different vertical pixel counts, they remain 720p panels—standard for this price point. So, like those of the competition, the Pop 10's display sharpness won't impress you. Nevertheless, it provides adequate clarity for most media consumption, complemented by decent color reproduction.
Furthermore, like the ones on the Pop 9 and competitors (with the exception of the Itel City 100, which maxes out at 90Hz), the Tecno Pop 10's display features a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Moreover, it is adaptive, meaning it can automatically adjust itself based on your activity to conserve energy.
However, when it comes to peak brightness, the Pop 10's display appears a little brighter than its predecessor's. However, the screen still shares a common limitation of entry-level phones: it struggles for clear visibility in direct sunlight. While texts are still viewable, overall clarity is impacted.
By the way, the Infinix Smart 10 and Itel City 100 displays match the Pop 10's decent peak brightness. Conversely, the Redmi A5, despite having the largest display, exhibits slightly lower peak brightness. Nonetheless, the Redmi's screen compensates with superior contrast and more vibrant colours.
Basic Camera Set-Up Yet Impressive Photos:
The Tecno Pop 10's camera setup is like that of the Pop 9. In detail, the latest device features an 8MP front camera and a single-lens 13MP rear sensor. This basic or similar camera setup is also what you find on most competitors, with the exception of the Redmi A5, which boasts a higher 32MP rear camera. While photos captured by the Pop 10 are not exceptionally clear or detailed—a common trait in this segment—they are, surprisingly, slightly clearer and sharper than anticipated. Colour rendition, too, appears decent.
In fact, among the competing phones, only the Redmi A5—which has a higher megapixel camera—delivers slightly clearer and better-looking photos than the Pop 10. However, selfies from the Pop 10 are slightly clearer and exhibit better colour rendition than those from the Redmi phone, even though both devices feature the same 8MP front cameras.
It should be noted that to get the best-looking photos from the Pop 10, you need good lighting conditions.
By the way, with both its front and rear cameras, the Infinix Smart 10 can shoot videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps).
Software And Hardware:
The Tecno Pop 10 ships with the new HiOS 15.1.0 custom UI, built upon the latest Android 15 (Go Edition) OS. Android 15 is also found on the Smart 10 and Redmi A5; only the Itel City 100 features Android 14. However, of all these competitors, including the Pop 10, only the Redmi A5 guarantees future OS updates.
Despite the Tecno Pop 10's claim of AI features, it's crucial not to confuse them with the advanced AI functionalities present in Tecno's higher-priced budget models. Simply put, the AI features included with the Pop 10 are rudimentary and their capabilities are restricted. They are also few in number—three, to be precise. Firstly, you have the DeepSeek R1-powered 'Ella Voice' (Tecno Voice Assistant). Additionally, there's a Document Assistant and a Writing Assistant. The Writing Assistant, for instance, can generate, proofread, rewrite, and summarize texts.
Regarding hardware, the Tecno Pop 10 is available in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. The 3GB variant comes with 64GB of internal storage, while the 4GB variant features 128GB. Like its competitors, the Pop 10's internal storage can be expanded via microSD card up to 2 terabytes (2TB).
The Tecno Pop 10 is powered by the Unisoc T7250 CPU, also known as the T615. This is the same processor found in the Tecno Pop 9, so the latest device's performance is similar to its predecessor's.
By the way, the Unisoc T7250 is a 12nm entry-level processor with clock speeds of up to 1.8GHz. For its GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), the processor utilizes the Mali-G57 MP1. It should be noted that the Smart 10, Redmi A5, and Itel City 100 are all powered by the Unisoc T7250. Therefore, the Tecno Pop 10's performance is similar to that of the listed phones.
The Tecno Pop 10, with its Unisoc T7250 CPU, is ideally suited for everyday tasks such as social media Browse and casual gaming, given its limited processing capabilities. Nonetheless, the phone navigates quickly and switching between apps doesn't take time. Although the phone can launch some graphics-intensive titles, users should expect compromises in the form of low frame rates and reduced graphics quality. To reiterate, the Tecno Pop 10 is not designed for gaming or other demanding workloads
Standard battery Capacity, 15W Fast Charging, But Slower Charger:
The Tecno Pop 10 retains the 5,000mAh battery and 15W charging speed of the Pop 9. You'll find the same battery capacity and charging speed on the Smart 10 as well. However, while the Redmi A5 also features 15W charging, it comes equipped with a slightly bigger 5,200mAh battery. The Itel City 100 also has a 5,200mAh battery like the Redmi, but it stands out by offering the highest charging speed at 18W.
Meanwhile, despite its 15W quick charging capability, the Tecno Pop 10 comes with only a 10W charger. Consequently, it took the phone over two and a half hours to fully charge its battery from zero percent.
