Tecno Pop 6 is the recently unveiled low-end android phone from the Tecno Mobile. And it's the latest model of the Tecno Pop series. The phone is also the successor to the Tecno Pop 5.

Tecno Pop 6 is available in three variants. The first one is the Tecno Pop 6 (BE7); which is the standard variant. The second one is the Tecno Pop 6 Go; the stripped-down variant of the Pop 6 (BE7), and the focus of this review. There is also Tecno Pop 6 4G; which looks exactly like the Pop 6 Go, but support 4G networks.

Being the stripped-down variant doesn't necessary mean that the Pop 6 Go is equipped with lesser hardware than the Pop 6. Though this phone doesn't support 4G (LTE) networks like the Pop 6, and it's also fitted with a less stronger 4000mAh battery, compared to the 5000mAh battery of the Pop 6.

Yet, Pop 6 Go has almost the same quad-core cpu, the same 2GB of RAM and the same 32GB internal storage as the Pop 6. It also runs on the Android 11 (Go Edition) OS. This phone also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel dual back camera like the Pop 6.

 

In fact, and apart from its slightly smaller battery, and lack of support for 4G networks, the other two things that differentiate Pop 6 Go from the Pop 6 is the design and display.

Because unlike the Pop 6 that spotted a more recent and stylish looks, Tecno Pop 6 Go maintain the dated looks of the older Pop models.

Also compared to the 6.1-inch HD+ notched display of the Pop 6, Pop 6 Go is fitted with a minute smaller 6.0-inch display, with traditional bezels at the top and bottom of its screen. This screen also features a lower  (FWVGA) resolution.

Yet, except for the ones mentioned above, the rest of the features of the Pop 6 Go are similar to those of the Pop 6. For instance, Tecno Pop 6 Go also has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, microUSB port, and dual Nano-SIM card slots.

Price And Design Colours:

Tecno Pop 6 Go is available in three colours options of Starfall Grey, Iris Purple and Ice-crystal Blue. The phone's current price is about 51,500 Naira, KSh 9,999.

 

VERDICT: If you are the type of person that likes to take pictures every now and them, Tecno Pop 6 Go is not meant for you. Neither does it meant for those that like to play games that required a little graphics power.

But this phone will handle your day to day usage, including internet browsing, quite okay, as long as you don't rush it. Because the phone is running the recent android OS, and Apps, on top of an old low-end quad-core chipset.

DESIGN: Tecno Pop 6 Go Comes In The Body Of The Tecno Pop 4:

Unless you turn it over, you might not be able to tell the difference between Tecno Pop 6 Go and the two years old Tecno Pop 4.

Apart from having an identical 6.0-inch display and similar thick bezels (at the top and bottom of the screen), the phone also has the same form factor (shape) and the same 18:9 aspect ratio as the Tecno Pop 4. Nonetheless, with its 160.3x78.8x10.85mm dimension and 229g weight, Tecno Pop 6 Go is a little heavier and thicker than the Pop 4. 

 

Still, the single speaker of the Pop 6 Go is also located inside the top bezel, alongside earpiece, Notification LED,  and front-facing camera.

The positions of other slots (and ports) are also similar those of the Pop 4. For instance, Pop 6 Go also has its volume rockers and power button placed on the right edge. While its 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB, and microphone are also located on the bottom edge.

 

Also, you'll have to open the back cover of this phone before you can have access to its two Nano SIM card slots.

In short, except for its lower battery capacity and downgraded rear camera, Tecno Pop 6 is the same phone as the Tecno Pop 4, both in appearance and under the hood.

Meanwhile, the only way to distinguish Tecno Pop 6 Go from the earlier Pop 4 is by the shape of its rear camera bump. Unlike the old phone that spotted a small, square-shaped camera bump, Tecno Pop 6 Go comes with a tall and big rectangular-shaped camera bump.

And inside the bump are three vertically arranged camera sensors, though the third spot is just for decoration, because the phone has only two rear cameras.

A Decent 6.0-inch FWVGA Display:

As a result of its lower FWVGA (960x480) resolution, the 6.0-inch screen of the Pop 6 Go is slightly less sharper than the 6.1-inch screen of the Pop 6; which features an HD+ resolution.

Yet, despite its lower resolution, the screen of the Pop 6 Go is still a clear one, it also has a good level of brightness. In fact, other picture qualities (of the screen) are almost on par with those of the Pop 6 screen.

Camera System:

As expected, the picture qualities of the shots, taken with the 5-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel dual rear camera of the Pop 6 Go do not try to make a statement, but they are okay, for a phone at this price point.

If you desire a slightly better camera system, but on a low budget android phone. I'd say you should add money and go for either of the Infinix Smart 3G, Itel P38 or Samsung Galaxy A03 Core.

 

But if camera qualities don't bother you that much, then you will be fine with the Tecno Pop 6 Go cameras.

Meanwhile, both the front and rear cameras of the Pop 6 Go are capable of shooting 720p videos at 30fps (frame per second).

Processing Power And Storage:

Like the Pop 6, Tecno Pop 6 Go also features 2GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, and runs on the Android 11 Go Edition.

But, despite that the phone also features a 1.3Ghz quad-core MediaTek processor like the Pop 6, its processor is different.

Because, as a said earlier, Pop 6 is powered by the MT6739WA CPU, while Pop 6 Go is fitted with the MT6580 CPU. Though both of them are 28nm low-end processors, but MT6739WA (of the Pop 6) is more recent, and it also support 4G LTE networks.

Also compared to the Mali-400 MP2 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) of the MT6580, MT6739WA has a slightly better Mali-T720 MP2 GPU.

Yet, in spite of its slightly better GPU and support for 4G networks, MT6739WA has almost the same processing power as the MT6580. Both of these CPUs are also suitable for light tasks and low graphics demanding applications.

As i also mentioned earlier, it's the same MediaTek MT6580 (of the Pop 6 Go) that came with the older Pop 4; which share almost everything with the latest phone.

 

4,000mAh Battery:

Though, Pop 6 Go doesn't have an impressive 5000mAh battery like the Pop 6. Yet, considering the phone's minute smaller 6.0 display, and the lower screen resolution, the 4000mAh battery of the Pop 6 Go is still more than enough.

However Tecno Pop 6 Go doesn't come with standard 10W charger. Instead, it's packed with a 5W charger. So it might take you about four hours to fully charge this phone's battery, when it drops to one percent.
