The recently released Tecno Spark 7P (KF7j) is the latest model of the Tecno Spark series and it's also the successor to the last year's Tecno Spark 5 Pro (KD7). Also unveiled alongside Tecno Spark 7P is the Tecno Spark 7 (KF6I), though, this smaller phone was not officially launch in Nigeria, but it's available. Meanwhile, this review is about the Spark 7P.

Compared to the previous Spark phones, most especially its predecessor, i.e. Tecno Spark 5 Pro, the selling points of the Tecno Spark 7P are its bigger 6.82-inch drop-notch display; which also features 90Hz refresh rate, its powerful MediaTek Helio G70 processor and its beautiful back cover.
In addition to those three, Tecno Spark 7P is also preloaded with the latest Android 11 OS and the latest version of the Tecno HiOS custom UI.

But, apart from the ones mentioned (above), other aspects of the Tecno Spark 7P remain as those of the Tecno Spark 5 Pro. For instance, Tecno returned the same 8MP front-facing camera and the same 16MP main back camera of the Spark 5 Pro to the Spark 7P, though unlike that of the earlier model that's fitted with quad-lens camera, the back of the latest phone is mounted with a triple-lens camera.

Also, the RAM and storage configurations of the Spark 7P are almost the same with those of the Spark 5 Pro, because the latest phone comes with 4GB of RAM with storage options of either 64GB or 128GB.  Furthermore, like its predecessors, i.e., Tecno Spark 5 Pro and Tecno Spark 5 (KD7h), Tecno Spark 7P is also fitted with a 5000mAh battery, and it still lack support for fast charging.
Other features of the Spark 7P such as microUSB port, SIM slot, power button and volume rockers are also found in their usual positons.

Note: Infinix Hot 10T (X689C) is another similar contender in this category. In fact, Infinix Hot 10T has almost everything in common with the Tecno Spark 7P.

Price And Colors:
Meanwhile, Tecno Spark 7P is already available in major phone outlets and online stores across the region. And it comes in four colour options of Alps Blue, Spruce Green, Magnet Black and Summer Mojito. And while the price of the 4GB/64GB variant of this phone is currently around 62,000 Naira, that of its 4GB/128GB variant is about 75,000 Naira.

DESIGN: It's All About The Camera Module And Back Cover:
Due to its drop-notch screen, the front of the Tecno Spark 7P looks almost like that of the 7.0-inch Tecno Spark 5 Air which is still the biggest Spark phone till date. In other words, the design of the Spark 7P is common among the late 2019 and early 2020 entry-level and midrange smartphones, still, one thing that makes Tecno Spark 7P stand out among it peers is its attractive back cover and camera module.

The pretty, vertically placed, camera module of the Spark 7P gives one impression that the phone is a flagship one. Also contributing to this appealing looks is the big, engraved Spark branding; which occupies half of the lower part of the phone's back cover. The plastic back cover itself is non-reflective (matte), therefore it doesn't attract smudges and fingerprints.
However, the fingerprint reader of the Tecno Spark 7P seems rather small and its position also seems to be a little high and close to the big camera module. Unfortunately also, the front of this phone looks plain and slightly dated. Perhaps, this is as a result of the slightly thick bezels that surround the ample drop-notch display. Personally, i still prefer the elegant-looking Dot-in display of the Spark 5 Pro to this bigger phone's drop-notch display.

DISPLAY: 720p Display With 90Hz Refresh Rate;
Except for its bigger size and higher (90Hz) refresh rate; which ensures that your games, page scrolling and texts appear smoother, the 6.82-inch screen of the Spark 7P is a regular 720p display like those of the previous Spark phones. In other words, this screen has an HD+ resolution of 1640x720 and a pixel density of 262ppi. Yet, despite its 720p resolution, the pictures on this screen are clear and the colours are accurate.

By the way, if you are not a fan of the 90Hz refresh rate, you can choose the regular 60Hz refresh rate mode or Automatic Refresh rate mode in the Display Settings. It should be noted that the 90Hz Refresh rate mode consumes a slightly more power than the regular 60Hz Refresh rate mode

CAMERA: Same As Those Of The Spark 5 Pro;
Because the recent models of the Tecno Spark phone were fitted with similar low-megapixels cameras. Therefore, it came as no surprise that Tecno returns the same camera set-ups of the earlier Spark 5 Pro to the latest Spark 7P.
Though the back of the latest Spark 7P is mounted with triple-lens camera while that of the Spark 5 Pro was fitted with quad-lens camera, yet the primary back camera of the Spark 7P still features the same 13MP lens like that of the Spark 5 Pro, and the front of the latest phone is also fitted with an 8MP selfie lens like that of the earlier model.

As a result of this, don't except much difference between the pictures taken with the Spark 7P cameras and the ones taken with the Spark 5 Pro cameras.
Meanwhile, the second camera on the back of Spark 7P is fitted with a Macro sensor (for taking detailed pictures of close-up objects) while the third camera is referred to as AI Lens or QVGA lens; which is meant for taking brighter pictures in low light conditions.
And to make your night shots appear more clearer, Tecno Spark 7P comes with a few picture enhancement features such as Super Night Mode and Night Mode.

Both the front and back cameras of the Tecno Spark 7P are capable of shooting 2K videos at 30fps (frames per second), while the back camera is capable of shooting Slow-Motion videos at 240fps.
Tecno Spark 7P also features Video Bokeh, which allows you to blur video background thereby causing the subject(s) (of the video) to look more enhanced or appear more focused.

Helio G70 Chipset With Android 11 OS:
Teno Spark 7P is equipped with a processor that's much more powerful than that of its predecessor. While the earlier Spark 5 Pro was fitted the Helio A25 cpu,which is an entry-level MediaTek chipset, Tecno Spark 7P comes with a more powerful MediaTek Helio G70.
Helio G70 or MT6769 is a 12nm 6x Cortex-A55 (with 2x Cortex-A77) octa-core gaming chipset, and it has a maximum processing speed of 2.0Ghz. And for an optimum graphics performance, this chipset is fitted with the Mali-G52 GPU.
This phone's processing power, combined with its 4GB of RAM, is necessary for the smooth-running of the latest Android 11 OS (Operating System). And running on top of the OS is the Tecno's latest HiOS 7.6 Custom UI.

On the audio aspect, Tecno Spark 7P features Bluetooth Audio Share 2.0, which enables you to share music with many people. And for a more pleasant and clearer audio output, Tecno Spark 7P is powered by the Dirac Stereo Audio engine, the phone is also equipped with a dual or stereo speakers. Though, one speaker is placed at the bottom edge of the phone, while the other is located and embedded at the top edge of its display, right above the selfie lens.

Meanwhile, as i mentioned earlier, Tecno Spark 7P comes with two internal storage options of either 64GB or 128GB. Still, irrespective of your choice, the internal storage of this phone is expandable, via microSD card, up to 512GB.

The Return Of 5000mAh Battery:
Same as earlier Spark phones, Tecno Spark 7P is powered by a 5000mAh battery. And on a single charging, and with normal usage, this battery is guaranteed to last for up to 2 days. Still, like its predecessors, Tecno Spark 7P doesn't support fast charging. As a result, it'll take you over 3 hours to fully charge this phone from 1 per cent.
