Design-wise, Tecno Camon 17P (CG7) and Tecno Camon 17 Pro (CG8) look almost the same. They both feature an identical 6.8-inch Dot-in displays. And despite that the back cover of the Camon 17 Pro sport a glossy finish and prettier camera bump, the camera bump and the back cover still resemble those of the Tecno Camon 17P.

The power button on each phones also doubled as fingerprint reader, because none of them has rear-mounted fingerprint reader. Tecno also equipped the two phones with USB-C ports.
And apart from having the same size, the displays of both phones also feature Full-HD+ resolutions. However, while the screen of the Camon 17 Pro supports 90Hz refresh rate, that of the Camon 17P only support the regular 60Hz refresh rate.

The front facing camera on the Tecno Camon 17 Pro is also better than the one on the Camon 17P. Because the front camera of the Pro phone is fitted with a 48-megapixel sensor, while that of the Camon 17P has a 16-megapixel sensor. But, the back camera set-up on both phones are almost the same. In other words, each of the phone is equipped with a quad-lens back camera, and each phone's primary back camera also features 64-megapixel sensor.

Under the hood, both Tecno Camon 17P and Camon 17 Pro are running on the Android 11 OS with the recent version of the Tecno HiOS custom UI, however, Camon 17 Pro is equipped with a better hardware than the Camon 17P.
While the Camon 17P is fitted with the Helio G85 CPU, 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage, Tecno Camon 17 Pro is equipped with a much powerful Helio G95 CPU, with a slightly higher RAM of 8GB and twice storage capacity of 256GB.
Meanwhile, both of the phones are powered by 5000mAh batteries and they also come with support for fast charging. But, instead of having 25W fast charging like the Camon 17 Pro, Tecno Camon 17P offers a little less fast charging rate of 18W.

Price And Design Colours:
Currently, the price of the Tecno Camon 17 Pro is about 129,000 naira, while that of the Camon 17P is around 90,000 naira. Tecno Camon 17P is available in three colour options of Frost Silver, Magnet Black and Spruce Green. While the Camon 17 Pro, on the other hand, comes in a limited or two colour options of either California Dream Silver or Malibu Blue.

Verdict: Because both of them have identical physical attributes, and considering the much higher price of the Camon 17 Pro, i prefer Tecno Camon 17P over the Pro model. Besides, the phone's Helio G85 chipset, and its 6GB of RAM, will handle most of the graphics demanding games and apps easily.
Though, to some, Camon 17P unimpressive cameras (especially the front camera) can be a thing of concern, still, considering the phone's price, in relation to that of the Camon 17 Pro, i think the cameras of the Camon 17P are okay.

Identical 1080p Displays, But Camon 17P Lacks 90Hz Refresh Rate:
It's only the lack of support for 90Hz refresh rate that differentiates the display of the Camon 17P from  that of the Camon 17 Pro. Because apart from having the same screen size, both of the phones also feature the same 20.5:9 aspect ratio. And it's the same aspect ratio that makes the two of them to have an identical shapes. The hole-punches on their screens are also found at the top-centres, instead of the usual upper left corner.
The displays of both phones also feature IPS-LCD panels (though, with its higher high price, i was expecting the display of the Camon 17 Pro to have an AMOLED panel). Both of these screens also have the same Full-HD+ resolution of 2460x1080 and the same pixel density of 395ppi.

By the way, the 90Hz or higher refresh rate, supported by the Camon 17 Pro display, ensures that page scrolling, games and texts appear smoother on the phone's screen. However, compared to the regular 60Hz refresh rate, the higher or 90Hz refresh rate consume a little more power. Fortunately, you can choose between 90Hz, 60Hz and Automatic refresh rate in the phone's Display Settings.

Though Their Back Covers Also Look Alike, Yet There Are Small Differences Between Them:
The visible differences between the two phones are more obvious when you look at them from their back sides. 
Apart from having a better build quality, Tecno Camon 17 Pro also has a better looking camera bump. And compared to the Camon 17P non-reflective (or matte) back cover, the back cover of the Camon 17 Pro has a glossy finish. Nonetheless, the design of the Camon 17 Pro back cover and its camera bump still resemble those of the Camon 17P. In addition to that, both of them also have big Camon brandings engraved on the lower left side of their back covers.

The rest of the physical features of the Camon 17 Pro are also like those of the Camon 17P. As i mentioned earlier, each phone's power button also serves as fingerprint reader. In other words, none of them have rear-mounted fingerprint reader. Both of them also have their USB-C ports, microphones, 3.5mm audio jacks and speakers placed on their bottom edges. The dual SIM card slots (and trays) of both phones are also located on their left edges, while the power buttons and volume keys are located on their right edges.
Meanwhile there is another (or secondary) microphone on the top edge of the Tecno Camon 17 Pro, but this is missing on the top edge of the Camon 17P.

Almost The Same Back Cameras, But Camon 17 Pro Has A Much Better Front Camera:
Though, compared to that of the Camon 17P, Tecno Camon 17 Pro is equipped with a much better front camera, because the front camera of the Pro phone is fitted with a 48-megapixel sensor, while that of the Camon 17P comes with a 16-megapixel sensor.
However, the configuration and arrangement of the 64-megapixel quad back camera of the Camon 17 Pro is almost the same with that of the Camon 17P. In fact the difference between the two phones back cameras lies in their second rear lenses.

While the 64-megapixel quad back camera on the Camon 17 Pro is made up of a 64-megapixel Main sensor, an 8-megapixel Ultra-wide sensor (which also doubled as Macro sensor), a 2-megapixel Depth sensor and a 2-megapixel QVGA or AI sensor. On the other hand, the 64-megapixel quad back camera on the Camon 17P is comprised of a 64-megapixel Main sensor, a 2-megapixel Macro sensor, a 2-megapixel Depth sensor and a 2-megapixel AI sensor.

The above info reveals that the 64-megapixel quad back camera on the Tecno Camon 17 Pro is better than the one on the Camon 17P.
In adition, the front and back cameras of the Tecno Camon 17 Pro are also capable of shooting 4K videos, while the ones on the Camon 17P are limited to 2K videos.

Same Software But Camon 17 Pro Offers Better CPU, RAM & Storage:
Though both of the phones are running on the Android 11 OS with the Tecno HiOS 7.6 custom UI on top, yet, as expected, the more expensive Camon 17 Pro is equipped with a better processor.
While the Camon 17P is fitted with the MediaTek Helio G85 processor (the same processor that powered the base Tecno Camon 17), Tecno Camon 17 Pro is equipped with a more faster and powerful Helio G95 processor.
Though both of them are 12nm octa-core processors and they also have the same 6x Cortex-A55 Arms. But instead of having 2x Cortex-A75 Arm and 2.0GHz clocked speed like the Helio G85, Helio G95 features 2x Cortex-A76 Arm and it clocked at 2.05GHz.


And for your graphics demanding games and other related apps, the more expensive Tecno Camon 17 Pro is equipped with the Mali-G76 MC4 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit); which is slightly faster and more efficient than the Mali-G52 MC2 GPU that's inside Camon 17P.
Also compared to the 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage of the Camon 17P, Camon 17 Pro has a slightly higher RAM of 8GB and twice storage space of 256GB. Yet, both phones' internal storage capacities can be expanded up to 512GB, via MicroSD cards.

Tecno Camon 17 Pro Has Dual Speaker And Dual Microphone.
Furthermore, unlike the Camon 17P that features single speaker, Tecno Camon 17 Pro comes with a dual or stereo speakers. As a result, Camon 17 Pro has a louder and clearer sound output than the Camon 17P. Also for noise cancellation, clearer phone calls and better audio quality when you're recording videos, the Pro model is also equipped with two microphones, one on the top edge, the other on the bottom edge.

Same Battery Capacities But Camon 17 Pro Has A Slightly Faster Charging Rate:
Apart fom having the same 5000mAh battery capacities, both of the Tecno Camon 17P and Camon 17 Pro also feature USB-C ports. However, while the Tecno Camon 17 Pro supports 25W fast charging and comes with a 25W fast charger, Camon 17P supports a lower fast charging rate of 18W and it also has an 18W fast charger.
As a result, it'll take you over two hours to fully charge the battery of the Tecno Camon 17P when it drops to one per cent. On the other hand, it'll take you less than two hours to fully charge the battery of the Camon 17 Pro.
